In Minecraft’s warm oceans you’ll find coral reefs – massive underwater ecosystems full of tropical fish. But fish aren’t the only creatures bobbing along with the underwater currents. You’ll also discover small, light-emitting creatures called “sea pickles”, which are our item of the month.
在 Minecraft 中的暖海里，你会发现一种广阔的、满是热带鱼的水下生态系统——珊瑚礁。然而在水流中上下潜泳的鱼儿并非此处唯一的生物。你还会发现我们本月的物品——叫做“海泡菜”的小小发光生物。

Sea pickles look more like plants, because they don’t move around, but I can assure you that they’re definitely an animal. They come in colonies of up to four, and make their home on top of coral blocks where they can filter the seawater for tiny creatures to eat.
由于不会移动，海泡菜看起来更像是植物，但我敢保证它们确实是种动物。它们最多四个一群地生活在珊瑚块顶端，以海水中滤出的微小生物为食。



As you might expect, sea pickles appeared in the oceans of the Overworld as part of the Update Aquatic in July 2018. They’ve not changed too much since, except that in the Village & Pillage update they became compostable.

It’s easy to acquire sea pickles. Find a coral reef and go diving. You’ll immediately find them on the coral blocks that make up the seafloor, in groups of one to four. If you don’t have a coral reef nearby, then you can also buy them sometimes from a wandering trader. Using bonemeal on a set of sea pickles will increase the colony size, and will also spread the pickles to other nearby coral blocks. So that’s an option if you want to acquire them in bulk.
海泡菜的获取十分简单。找一片珊瑚礁，然后一头扎进水里。在布满珊瑚块的海底上很快就能找到它们，一群有 1~4 个。如果在附近找不到珊瑚礁，有时流浪商人也会出售它们。对着海泡菜使用骨粉可以扩大它们的聚落，并使它们蔓延至附近的珊瑚块上。这是种量产的好方法。

When placed underwater, pickles will generate light – and a colony of more pickles will produce more light. They can also be composted for a good chance of raising the compost level, and smelted into lime dye.
海泡菜会在水底发光——一群的数量越多，发出的光就越强。它们被用于堆肥时增加堆肥层数的概率很可观，还能被烧炼成黄绿色燃料。

Sea pickles in Minecraft are modeled after a strange collection of real-world species called "pyrosomes". These creatures don’t sit on the seafloor, instead they float around with the currents in upper layers of warm seas. Each creature is only a few millimetres in size, but they live in cylinder-shaped colonies of hundreds to thousands of individuals.
Minecraft 中的海泡菜在现实中的原型是一种叫做“火体虫”的奇异生物的集合。它们并不附着于海底，而是在暖海上层顺水漂流。每个个体只有几毫米大小，每个圆柱形的聚落都由成百上千个个体组成。

These colonies are bioluminescent, flashing a blue-green light that can be seen many metres away. Occasionally sailors on a dark night report seeing calm seas containing hundreds of colonies, flashing away. Scientist Thomas Huxley wrote in 1849:
