There are loads of different kinds of wood in Minecraft. Oak, spruce, birch, jungle, dark oak, and acacia – not to mention the huge fungus stems. Bamboo is in there too – but until the Trails & Tales Update you were fresh out of luck if you wanted to actually build something with it.

Luckily, that’s no longer the case! Allow me to introduce our block of the month, bamboo – which is undoubtedly going to deliver a bam-boost to your crafting repertoire.

You’ll find bamboo being snacked on by pandas in the towering, green, bamboo jungle biome. This rare jungle variant is tricky to find, but seasoned builders will already know that it’s well worth seeking out.
在高耸挺拔、翠色欲滴的竹林群系里，你可以看见熊猫正津津有味地啃着竹子。要找到这片稀有的丛林变种可不容易，但老道的建筑师绝对明白，为了寻得这片群系，就算踏破铁鞋也是值得的。

Until recently, the bamboo harvested there was supremely useful for its ability to be crafted into scaffolding blocks . These temporary blocks are easy to put up, climb, and take down again, making them essential in any large building project. But what if you want to use bamboo in your constructions and not take it down again?

Well, all it takes for your architectural dreams to come true is to mash nine bamboo twigs together in a crafting grid – giving you the bamboo block. This can be used in much the same way you use wood – as a building material on its own, stripped to remove the green bark, or turned into planks. Unlike harder woods, though, a bamboo block will only yield two planks per block crafted.
好，这就让你梦想成真。只需把九根竹子放到合成网格中，就能得到竹块。竹块的用法跟木头别无二致：可以直接用作建筑材料，可以削掉绿色的外皮，也可以做成竹板。只是与更厚实些的木头不同，每块竹块只能做出两块竹板。

Don’t like building? Don’t worry. You can also use bamboo in furnaces, to smelt 1.5 items per block, or under note blocks to produce a “bass” sound.
对建筑不感冒？没关系，你可以把竹子当作燃料，一块竹块能烧炼 1.5 个物品；还可以放在音符盒下，发出贝斯的声音。

REAL bamboo has been used in permanent construction for centuries. It has a high strength-to-weight ratio, and it’s pretty resilient. One bridge made of bamboo in Quan-Xian, in China, has stood since at least 960 AD – thanks to continuous maintenance. It performs particularly well in earthquakes.
在现实世界中，用竹子来建造长期使用的建筑的做法，古已有之。竹子的强度质量比高，且韧性出色。中国 Quan-Xian① 有座用竹子搭的桥，起码在公元 960 年就已落成。在持续保养之下，至今仍屹立不倒，连地震都无法撼动。

In the past couple of decades, interest in bamboo as a construction material has grown due to its sustainability. Bamboo grows much faster than trees, so using it in place of regular wood helps to avoid cutting down tropical forests. South East Asia and South America are at the forefront of the modern use of bamboo.
竹子再生能力极强。因此在过去几十年里，人们对于把竹子用作建筑材料的兴趣与日俱增。竹子的生长速度让树木望尘莫及，所以用竹材来替代常用的木材能够减少热带雨林砍伐。东南亚和南美洲在竹材的现代化使用方面是领头羊。

Luckily, Minecraft has as many trees as you can grow, and plenty of bamboo too. So you don’t need to choose it for sustainability reasons. Instead, you should select it for its good looks alone! Just watch out that a panda doesn’t move into your beautiful new house...
不过幸好，Minecraft 里的树木要多少就有多少，只要你愿意种就行；竹子也是同样海量。所以选用竹子不是心系可持续发展，而单纯是因为好看！只是要小心熊猫搬到你漂亮的新房子里住⋯⋯
